 Why are the services offered by the Beaver Island Rural Health Center worth supporting? The statements below, gleaned from the many appreciative letters the Health Center receives each year, clearly illustrate the importance of prompt, high quality medical care to all Beaver Islanders.

“I had certainly not planned on an encounter with yellow jackets… thank you for your genuine concern and professional care…kudos and thanks.”

“Please accept this donation for...providing such excellent care for my mother…Thanks to you she is celebrating her 96th birthday. As future full time
residents we are much reassured about our future health care on the island.”

“I want to thank you all for saving my life that Wednesday…you are just the best.”

“Thank you for suturing my scalp….skillfully repairing a rather jagged
laceration… the newly formed scar is minimal.”

“Thank you for the excellent care you gave my husband… He injured his back getting out of the plane and was just miserable…You got right to the heart of the problem. He started getting relief and we were able to enjoy our stay.”

We all know that sudden illness or accidents could disrupt our lives at anytime. It doesn’t take much reflection to realize that the 24/7 services provided by the Health Center save lives every year and alleviate unnecessary discomfort that can quickly ruin a vacation.

This knowledge is the reason BIRHC has always enjoyed such generous support. We can’t tell you how pleased and grateful we are for the success of our summer fundraisers and the overwhelming passage of our millage renewal. We write to you now to ask that you consider an end of year contribution to the Health Center to offset the 24% of our operating expenses not covered by property taxes or patient revenue.

What have we done over the past 12 months to earn your continued support? Again this year our staff has added many new services that cut down on the inconvenience and expense of traveling to the mainland for care:

Physical therapy available twice a week from Larry Hudson, MPT, PT of Charlevoix Area Hospital;
Dermatology screening and procedures from Dr. Murray Cotter, MD, PHD, of Northern Michigan Dermatology;
High definition video link with Charlevoix Area Hospital Emergency room;
Additional home health services for the elderly by a new certified nurse’s aid;
Wellness screenings for $25;
A “Good Samaritan Fund” to pay for the medical expenses of needy patients.

The BIRHC Board and staff thank you for considering a financial contribution during this holiday season. We always stretch every dollar that comes into the Health Center, so you can trust us to be responsible stewards of whatever new resources we receive. To ensure proper recognition, please fill out and return the enclosed card along with your check made out to “The Charlevoix County Community Foundation.” Your gift will be acknowledged by both CCCF and the Health Center. Please note that all contributions will go to the Special Projects Fund unless otherwise designated.
